Still should just screen everyone. Like where’s the disqualifier for “had sex with someone who may have had sex with someone who’s gay”

They do screen everyone - when I donate in NYC there are lines in the handout about how you shouldn't use blood donation as an HIV test. It's been a year or two, but there was also a screener Q for "had sex w/someone who may have had sex with someone who's gay."

Do they not test the blood they currently take in anyway? Or is it all on an honor system. So strange
-
They test the blood, but there's always the chance of a false negative (rare, but it happens). The real issue is that HIV exploded in the US in large part because the blood supply in the early '80s was contaminated.

Sorry if that seemed tone deaf It just seems ridiculous since you can now test for HIV/AIDS and refuse donors who test positive. (Again sorry if totally to edeaf)

And we've had a test for blood and blood products since (counts on fingers and toes, runs out of digits) 1985.
