The entire problem is that Twitter (and the internet at large) measures itself by false metrics. Growth is about new accounts, follows, and high degree of tweets and interactivity. Every choice is made to suit those metrics. And likes? Likes are useless to that.

It's also, importantly, a vital cataloguing tool. I like posts etc all the time for the sole purpose of coming back to them later.

IIRC, they developed a bookmark function for the app a month or two ago. Presumably that was designed to eventually replace use of the like button for this purpose.

This is why we need a "dislike button" that functions like Pandora's: filtering similar disliked content from your feed (but only if you dont follow the person who posted it)
