You ever think about just how many people, creatures, and living beings you've actively murdered in video games?

i still get the sick feeling to my stomach the first time i did a nuclear war in Civ 1. when i realized what percentage of the planet i wiped out...i have never pursued a military victory in that game again. only scientific and cultural.

Reminds me of nerve stapling in SMAC. Once you research it, you can press a button, boom, the rebellion that was disabling your base stops. ...And then you read the lore about what nerve stapling actually *does*

It's morbid to say, but I do wonder why video games don't get the blame for van attacks the way mass shootings do. It might be that I'm not terribly precise in GTA.

I do find myself sometimes thinking about how modes of play often involve destruction and violence. Whether with friends outside or on a TV screen with a controller, we get drawn to kill things for fun, pleasure, and relaxation. It’s odd and, at times, unsettling.

Yea this stuff started bothering me when I got into the David Tennant seasons of Doctor Who. He was able to do all these amazing things without hurting a single person and I wish more games would try something like that

I accidentally ran over a cat in GTAV once and I didn't touch the game for over a year.

I had a NaNoWriMo project once that was about a kid getting mixed up in some thriller stuff and killing one of the random evil henchmen, and being unable to move on from that singular death, despite his mentor having killed hundreds without care

I mentioned separating fantasy and reality in my reply not to imply that you or anyone else couldn't, but to make it clear that there's no correlation between it, any more than there is between movies or TV.

Heck same can be said about accumulating things. Accumulation and/or destruction are often the only language games offer, which is a pity and... Well not a good sign when you consider the long term effects on people...
