Fantastic article. I've never been quite sure what to make of Depp's claim that he doesn't even watch his own movies after filming concludes because it's "none of [his] business." Under the context of being ungenerous toward everyone else involved in the production, however...

The Keanu part of this is fantastic and I've never agreed with you more. The rest is pretty great too.

I was just talking with a new friend who wants to attend the film school I'll be starting at soon but she fears she isn't a good enough actor...I sent this to her immediately. What a delightful read, thank you so much as always for your insight!

Great argument against "range", which is a stupid way of assessing acting: Sylvester Stallone has almost no range, but the 1 thing he can do (pathetic downbeat heartbroken loser) he does really really well (Copland, Rocky, First Blood). We musn't say "bad actor" but "miscast"
-
Also, it's quite interesting to see how people/critics are obsessed with range for actors but never for directors (Woody Allen, for instance, has very limited range genre-wise and nobody seems to imply he's terrible at his job)

I don't think I have ever believed a word Keanu said. He is as stilted as a circus performer in every single scene he is in. I do agree that his physical performances are hugely impressive and worthy of praise.
-
I believe his characters are stilted but the emotions are true, especially in his eyes, does that way of seeing it make sense?
