So a lot of times they have to learn to express it with clarity and transcend that anxiety, given the amount of times it happens in their lives. It's just necessary for sanctity of mind. Sorry if it comes off as unapologetic I guess?

And look, I'm not talking about college age dude who just discovered veganism and is going on the moralistic warpath with a giant social media post. Even that's a stereotype. I'm talking about the vast majority of vegans who are just trying to live their damn life.

And in that, they have a right to express pride, build identity and community from it. Because do you know what they get excited about? People they can talk to and feel normal with! Cool new places and recipes!

Why are people so offended by that? There's no damn reason to care unless it's, surprise surprise, about our own bullshit and defensiveness. Over-reacting to someone's vegan-ness is nothing more than that reductive "what you think you're better than me?"

Again, I LOVE to cook and I eat meat. I feel like I can't help myself. But even in loving meat, I recognize the simple, inescapable truth that what they are doing is an undeniable good ethical choice.

Not just in terms of the whole "not killing living beings" thing, but how every study shows it's incredible impact on saving the environment. They are doing the world a tangible good. And they should be proud.

There is not enough water in enough places or sufficient infrastructure for every person to be vegan. Many people live in (literal, not food) deserts, where veganism is impractical and actually NOT the environmentally friendly choice.

And THIS POINT is why Vegans and Veganism is threatening - this "matter-of-fact" claim that they are ethically superior, environmentally superior, any given adjective you choose superior, which people who aren't even vegan grant them a priori.

1. please see last comment. 2. that's a half truth. Desert cultures are animal dependent but meat itself is also rare enough to the point that they eat a lot of milk-dependent vegetarian products. IE they get a lot out of a goat before they eat it. But 3.

To claim veganism "threatens" their way of life is wholly laughable. It has nothing to do with it. It's about the choice's existence in areas where it a substantial boon to the earth, unquestionably. Which only helps desert ecosystems in turn.

Your comment is a popular line of logic that is false and literally has nothing to do with the endpoint of what vegans are doing or after, so stop buying it hook line and sinker.
