By all indications, George Lucas was either disdainful or dismissive of the EU to a *much* greater degree than anyone in charge of SW now is. No one called anyone manbabies for their opinions. They got called that for expressing them like... well, men.. who are babies.https://twitter.com/MsghawkinsC/status/1029076132346384384 …

Look at ALL of these StarWars books George lucas left that Disney could have made in to blockbuster movies! But Disney would rather attack original fans and destroy characters out of hate for middle aged white males..lol! #BoycottEpisodeIX #DisneyKilledStarWars @ermac90210 pic.twitter.com/I0XGhtqFFv

"Read the entire Expanded Universe" is on the to-do list one of these days, but a thing that tends to bug me outside the films is how fast people seem to want to revert STAR WARS to the very genre cliches it's been subverting since the first one.

never been big enough into Star Wars to engage with it outside the movies or the occasional well-rated game, as best I can tell, the EU sucks *most* of the time, but people like it for the occasional good idea. It's just that they rarely, RARELY stick the landing.

Palpatine clones. Like an army of them. An undead sith called Darth Andeddu (ugh). Sith being a race (an evil race no less) instead of a title. Fuck there's so much stupid!

Wasn't Darth Andeddu that magic land in that Olivia Newton John movie?

Pretty much. The only reason these got published is because they had a Star Wars label and the companies thought they would sell regardless of quality.

Personally, I’m glad “Luke had a relationship with a spaceship that was living in his dead student’s body” is out of continuity.

I loved a handful of them, but very quickly learned there was no mileage in reading the timeline helpfully laid out in the front of each book.

I know a lot of people call the newer films "bad fan fiction" but somehow the EU gets this pass. It seemed that any shitty writer could come along and say that "No Boba Fett didn't really die in the Sarlaac, no no Palpatine was only KIND OF dead!"

And it was all just accepted as part of the canon, with no ifs, ands or buts. I shit you not there's an Empire Strikes Back "what if" book where Luke died on Hoth and Han was the one to train with Yoda. That is literal fan fiction.
