@FilmCritHULK Wouldn't the Oscars solve a lot more of their problems if they banned screeners?

If they banned screeners, Make voters have to actually go to the cinema to see the films they're voting for. Wouldn't that close the gap between films they like voting for and films people go to the cinema to see?

Take a resource for pirates too while they're at it.

Both these things would not have the effect you think. Screeners are rarely pirated. And thats not what becomes a motivating factor in what gets mass audiences go movies. The only point of the oscars is to get people to see more divergent, quality movies.

I'm not talking about motivating audiences to see oscar-friendly movies, I'm talking about motivating oscar-voters to see audience-friendly movies.

Getting audience-friendly movies on the telecast, this is the problem they're trying to solve. And things like ten best picture noms, taking voting privileges from retirees, and whatever the "popular film" award ends up being. These are attempted solutions, yes?

I reason if voters had to actually go to the cinema to see the films they vote for it'd tilt them towards films with broader appeal, or at least films that already had accessible releases.

They're already going to see those movies. They see lots of stuff. Trust me. Popular movies are screened at every guild / organization, with interviews, etc. etc. This isn't going to address the larger issues. Nor is it going to have a blip in terms of who watches and why.
