@FilmCritHULK Wouldn't the Oscars solve a lot more of their problems if they banned screeners?
Both these things would not have the effect you think. Screeners are rarely pirated. And thats not what becomes a motivating factor in what gets mass audiences go movies. The only point of the oscars is to get people to see more divergent, quality movies.

I'm not talking about motivating audiences to see oscar-friendly movies, I'm talking about motivating oscar-voters to see audience-friendly movies.

Getting audience-friendly movies on the telecast, this is the problem they're trying to solve. And things like ten best picture noms, taking voting privileges from retirees, and whatever the "popular film" award ends up being. These are attempted solutions, yes?
