Man, I always really want to like FilmCritHulk but then he does stuff like say both Joss Whedon and the ending to ME3 are brilliant and convince somebody to like the fucking Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies I've never seen a decent guy try so hard to get on my nerves

I mean, he was super critical of Whedon’s Age of Ultron... I think he’s right that Avengers and the first two Spider-Man movies are just incredibly well-constructed narratives on a basic structure level, regardless of any other faults

I mean okay that is an opinion I guess Personally I've never seen an adaptation fail so unilaterally to capture literally everything I like about a character To me, even the original mouthless Ryan Reynolds Deadpool was more accurate/likable

I still feel like Tobey’s Spider-Man should have been funnier. I thought Garfield was a great Spider-Man but a terrible Peter Parker. Holland does the best at encapsulating both sides of the character but I still think the Raimi movies had more clear, we’ll structured stories

Film Crit Hulk likes the raw unironic sincerity, getting annoyed with the snarky tone of modern pop culture is one of his things

I mean I guess the point of his original gimmick with the whole all caps yelling is that he's shouting his opinions from the heart with no ironic filter? Or something like that

He was one of the people who fell head over heels for Season 1 of GIRLS too, and relentlessly defended it

And to at least be clear. The problem with season 1 was how much criticism was rooted in outright misogyny, which I tackled. The problem was diagnosing how much of the show's portrayal was a criticism of white feminism or endorsement, at first I felt like it was the former but

with time and dunham's own way of coming at social culture, became much more problematic and muddled mess. And maybe it always was and I just didn't see it that way at first. But I stopped watching soon after.

I mean, to also be clear, my initial reaction to GIRLS was "I don't like this", followed by "Wow the intensity of the hate for this show is fucked up vs maybe I should reexamine my reactions", followed by coming around again to "I still don't like this"
