also, mid-level directors have been basically eradicated. it used to be, a new up and comer would make a small budget project, then work to mid, then do blockbusters, but now when josh trank has a mild success with "chronicle" he's given f4 and burns out.

the industry doesn't have the patience to foster artistic growth in new talent, because they've discovered they can be as profitable or moreso without doing that.
