Typically I see the definitions of trolling you guys use to be too broad. John Oliver isn't a trolling he's a new blend of both comedian and news reporter, what he says isn't trolling it's edutainment. No one says Bill Nye is a troll or Alton Brown. This word is insufficient.
Trolling is exceptionally simple for me: it's anyone who is inflammatory and then backs it up with some degree of "i wasn't be serious." Colbert-esque comedic public stunts that highlight hypocrisy are not trolling because the intent is 100% serious and laser-focused.

In other words, it's not insufficient because they are two radically different things.

It's insufficient because trolling is too broad a term and one they're comfortable with and actually self identify with and they like that poor frog and the troll face. To truly control the situation you have to use your own terms: https://twitter.com/themarysue/status/1015627190690635776?s=21 … https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/troll …
