Nah, it's alright, I actually totally agree with him, but he's missed something critical about the anti-TLJers position. This isn't his fault nor is it surprising, since we have done an abysmal job of explaining what TLJ did wrong, for good reasons that I'll explain.

Unless it's better than his friend breaking down and saying he felt it was making fun of him...

...you're setting a high bar. The conflict of the film is antithetical to certain fans who saw themselves as Luke as children

For some, yes, that's the case. For some others, bigotry is indeed their reasoning. But for myself and many (most?) others in the anti-tlj crowd, there are better reasons to dislike TLJ.

This isn't about disliking though. He makes it clear this is about not accepting what it's saying and coming up with reasons why it's bad for a Star Wars film

Yes, that's what I meant. As he says, he doesn't like to use the term "bad" to describe a film in that sense.

All right, if you feel you've got your thoughts in order and you've thought about the essay some more I'm interested in what you have to say

Ok, The EU was mostly indulgent, especially the luke basically becoming a dark god stuff, star wars was DEFINITELY not for everyone prior, just certain kinds of boys, and now it's more inclusive than ever, and I literally can't track your argument.

And that's because it's not an argument. It's a series of knee-jerk reactions that literally communicate nothing to me when you add it up. I gave the time to read it. I did so fairly. But I have no idea what kind of response I could give. So let's leave it there.
