I love The World's End, but I've never liked the message it sends when Nick Frost's dry alcoholic character eventually gives in, drinking and seemingly gains new confidence and strength. I'd love if there was a better way to view that character move

You'd love it because it would tell a beautiful lie. The ugly truth is there is a reason some people drink and it's because it gives them confidence and strength, and battling that kind of personality addiction can be THE HARDEST. Again, it's different for everyone.
