Between the two internships, I didn't have time for a part time job. I had a choice: lose out on a great opportunities or be homeless. BUT I was only able to keep them because of a horrible, shitty side opportunity...

I could make enough for rent playing poker on weekends (it's not a romantic or cool story, just an exploitative vegas thing). I was deeply lucky. If it wasn't able to stay at those internships, I wouldn't have gotten more opportunities that ended up setting me down this path.

The point is simple. Unpaid internships only embolden the wealthy who can afford not to be paid money for doing actual work. Pay people.

Just got ask today if a month of unpaid „looking over the shoulder“ would be alright for me before actually starting the job. Still cannot believe it.

My assumption with these kind of companies is that they’re terrible at training people with no interest in improving.
