That’s nice. I guess the number of times I’ve been insulted or threatened out of nowhere are my imagination. Holy fuck, own the toxicity. People have written articles about what a shit storm the DCEU fandom is

Guess all the terrible things the MCU fandom has said is our imagination. Guess they never caused Joss Whedon to leave twitter either. We're always asked to own our "toxicity", but when they do it "it's just a few bad eggs"

I think this is largely defined by the dynamics. I have my stated problems, but the marvel movies are pretty well reviewed and enjoyed. The DCU films have largely faced a lot of critical adversity. The fanbase feels pressed down, and genuinely rebels in a loud way. Now...

If suddenly the situation was reversed and marvel films faced the same kind of popular reaction? Who knows what the hardcore fanbase would be doing. But the point is there is a very different dynamic right now that plays into the difference in reaction.

So what should the DC/Snyder fans who unironically like his films be doing then - just 'sucking it up' that the critical/blogging community by and large dislikes the director and his films?

Start calling out your toxic people then. Not whining about how the movies are badly reviewed. Start stepping up. If I saw Marvel fans doing this shit I’d rip them a new one, not demand their victims explain themselves

and lot of the 'good' DC/Snyder fans I know have been doing just that. But the continued reinforcement of the 'DC fans are bad' from the 'other side' isn't helping. Hence the Star Wars thing I brought up....

...in that there's been talk from 'big names' as it were about there being good SW fans in amongst the whole toxic fandom and that the bigoted trolls should be ignored & not be a representative of the whole fandom.

To take the line of a different approach, stop "not all men"-ing and take a different approach to address ranks. I'm a star wars fan through and through. So that's what I've done with star wars. I never played the victim.

That's fair and again, there are people within the fandom have been calling the toxic BS our, myself included. But this convo is ignoring the root of it all which is fans feeling they should clap back at the film blogging/critical community for dunking on Snyder...my question is>

> whether you and others in this convo who aren't part of the 'fandom' think they're right to 'fight back' against the critical/general film community perception of these films or not?
