I disagree with the plot hole one. It takes a handful of people to remove plot holes from a 40+ hour novel but the hundreds of people involved with a 2 hour movie can't be bothered? Story telling has grown and creators need to step it up. The rest is 👍

Lol I think they greatly effect the quality of the film because they make it not make sense. But that's cool, you enjoy the action and effects while I look for good stories. Most big films cater to your preference anyway

Hi. I'm going to jump in here and be very overt. I think you want to have success. Here is a tip. The things you think matter? Don't matter. Your misunderstanding of what makes a good story is part of the problem of your stories are not gaining traction. You can doubt me,

you can scoff, you can say this is holier than thou. But it's not the intention. I worship storytelling. I write books about it. And it's not what you think it is. And if you open up your understanding, youll get better. Please be well.

You're probably right but I still hate plot holes and they authentically harm my enjoyment of film when I notice them. My only means of coping is having a headcanon that explains them away. A means of avoiding them & writing good plot: Write your story chronologically backwards

Write for dramatic clarity and character psychology clarity instead! Much more fun and also much more inclusive of the audience's emotional experience :)

“Plot holes” only seem to matter if they rip the viewer out of the experience so violently they begin to observe the film rather than let themselves experience it emotionally. Some people go in searching for plot holes and ruin it for themselves.

And most of what online film criticism calls "plot holes" isn't anything of the sort. It's them ignoring foreshadowing, or subtle setups, or character motivation, or a dozen other things that aren't delivered with the bluntness of exposition directly telling them why it happened

Even the plot holes that are actually plot holes can be put to better use as fanfiction fodder, rather than self-important "look how clever I am because I noticed a thing in a movie and have decided to make a stink about it" tweets and YouTube videos.

That's why I suggested writing backwards: start with an interesting ending, and then describe the development of actions and events that reach that point with consistent character psychology *&* realism. Basically ask why and how over and over until you reach your beginning.

I mean, the problem with plot holes for me isn't just the break in suspension of disbelief, it also makes it seem like there are no stakes: it then feels like I'm just listening to an author lecture me. That's a big problem IMO.

Or read an author play with dolls/action figures with personalities if they aren't trying to insert any sort of philosophy, politics, or some other intellectual idea into their plot.
