I think all of those are about the same thing, oddly enough. Which is the simple left-brained "logical" approach of dude bros to storytelling without realizing what they're really after is naked indulgent gratification from stories that cater to their power fantasy.

The more I hear someone talk about objectivity, the more I can guarantee they are the least objective people ever. Given the complete inability to understand how their emotions fuel what they decide is "logical" or "not logical."
-
It's like James Damore or whatever his name was. "let me calmly detail a list of logical things we can do about the objective fact women in tech are inferior." UHHHHH, DUDE. "what im being logical." It's all part of the same thing.

Honestly, as much as I've been a fan of them, I partially blame RLM's prequel videos, and similar videos. While there are some great points made in them, they often revel in nitpicking. Sadly, those are the parts many people focus on.

Part of my worry is that this way of viewing something is spreading. For example, with INFINITY WAR, the Star-Lord mistake felt horrible, but seemed like such a perfect character moment to me. Yet, so many people really thought that was a bad part of the film

I think the problem is while the math works out for the character choice, the actual situation can't help but feel slightly contrived, but it works theme-wise, however, the contrived nature fuels the anger of those who JUST WANT THEIR FAVES TO BE AWESOME ALL THE TIME.

I think the real underlying issue is that the people fixated on 'plot holes' aren't really trying to understand (i.e. criticize) the work and are often just looking for ways to discredit the film. With Cinemasins and the like, we have a film culture built around attacking movies.

This is one of those things that you read and you nod and say “Exactly!” out loud because someone has finally put words to a thought you didn’t even realize you were thinking. Thank you so much.

If you're referring to Star Wars, you're forgetting how much it's treated as a genuine philosophy, if not religion. Jediism has been deemed a real religion by the courts and if other religions are to be of any indication, people have been killed over such differences.

After all, it's only in the last decade that geekdom been widely accepted. Before that, people spent childhoods alienated. LOTRs only ever got a pass, because it was studied in universities. So, of course people will be defensive; they're being told: "This isn't for you anymore."
