I had this in my last place. Turned out to be the neighbours boiling cabbage. The smell would seep. It was weird.

It's just the smell of peanuts, cotton candy, and popcorn coming from the sewers.

Does it happen when it's hot/humid? Organic or non organic smell, old building? I kinda need to know the answer now too

If it smells almost musty, it's water damage somewhere! We had this problem for AGES at our house - I'd get a whiff of a weird smell and then it would vanish. Turns out there was a tiny flashing leak and it was moisture in our crawlspace.
