Yeah, I appreciate that - I think I'm just uncomfortable with the idea that filmic pleasures that aren't directly tied to narrative are indulgences in the first place.

It might be that this is just a question of semantics though, because I agree with your examples. I agree that cheering when Vader mows down Rebel troops in Rogue One is problematic, but that pleasure would be just as toxic to me if it somehow had a strong narrative reason
