A must read, this puts the strange, awkward acrimony towards the best Star Wars movie since Empire into beautiful perspective.https://twitter.com/filmcrithulk/status/1013902946151436288 …

Yeah. I keep saying TLJ is the Star Wars movie I’ve waited my whole life to see. It, for want of a better term, acknowledges loss and change. And, as Annihilation showed, change is scary. But it doesn’t ignore hope.

Actually, no, we don't. Because there's an alternative saying: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. You could argue the tower fell with the prequels, but JJ Abrams brought it back. And Rian pissed away a lot of goodwill TFA generated. And if MARVEL can respect the fans, why can't he?

Welp, as a lifelong fan of Star Wars I found TLJ far more respectful, to me as a viewer and the series as a whole, than the easy nostalgia fest of TFA. I thoroughly enjoyed TFA, don’t get me wrong. But TLJ thrilled me.
