The problem is we're talking about defining by sub-communities, which gets into "no true scotsman" territory, but moreso, the inherent problem is fanfiction isn't a thing, it's an act. By doing merely it, you enter the "community at large." Which gets into the whole reflexivity

Like, I can't inherently separate myself from the toxicity of star wars fans. We're all "fans," there's just those who do so with a loving heart, and those who seek malice. Everything about community subdivision stems from that alone.
