They are saying a lot worse than that.

People seem to think that any creative in the public eye is under some sort of obligation to listen to their criticism which is untrue.
@thelindsayellis talked about the way people were mad that Stephenie Meyer didn't read all of her hate mail in a video.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

That tendency to magnify the smallest perceived slight into a massive affront is also a very common way to justify wildly abusive behavior. It’s easier to be cruel when you’re sure you’re the real victim.

Did you miss the commentary from Rian on how "this film wasn't meant for you" or the manbabies comment he made or the whole "Let the past die" stuff in the film? Made by the obvious author stand-in dropping truth bombs on the main character meant to represent the average fan?

You can't have a film that has a message of letting the past die when 1. You're just copying huge story beats from a previous film 2. The fans and the legacy of the past were what kept your franchise ALIVE and so beloved. It comes off as insulting.

Your TLJ article was amazing. Best thing on SW/Fandom I've ever read. You put into words things I've been feeling since TPM came out... I understood if people thought it was a bad movie... but so many hated it because it wasn't the film they wanted.
