So I finally finished God of War... huh... So they're just gonna.... huh.

I think part of the problem is the semi open world nature. I love the world and exploring but it seems to run counter to the kind of story they want to tell. A linear game could have delivered the same action but focused the story.

That was my main gripe with the story too. Still loved it overall, just wish it felt like more of a conclusion.

Yeah it’s a bit underwhelming. Did you go back to your house after finishing? Because that will merely bolster your complaints.

I see what you mean. But I felt the main narrative of the game at the very least closed near-perfectly.

The effort of making a video game usually focuses on the opening of the game. This is aimed to "wow" the casual buyer. They know that a large portion of players will not actually bother to finish. That's why usually games tend to tail off, especially after the halfway point.

Yeah, I think knowing that this is only the first part of the full story going into it helps. I didn’t, so I also expected certain characters and realms to be included. It’s great as it is, but it’s misleading.

This is one of the problems of spoiler culture. The critics were so afraid of spoiling the game, that they’d rather not say anything at all about the story than enlighten gamers of what to expect.

Atreus's "true identity" also felt like a twist for twist's sake. (Granted, I know very little about Norse mythology, but looking back I saw little to no foreshadowing there.)

I've played the first six hours so and so far I'm not really feeling it - a big part of why is pacing. Say what you will about the content of the old GoW games, but they were at least taught. Everything about this game feels needlessly padded.

Seriously, I was so surprised it was finished there. I thought I had half the game to go, didn't even realise I'd fought the 'final boss'. But I'd just finished Persona 5 so my expectations for game length were a bit out of wack
