Recommended, but I mean, it’s no Man Booker or Pulitzer.

It's definitely the second best out of King's two "Adult version of my child hero" books

It's a deeply moving story about addiction and recovery (and forgiving yourself as part of the process) but just an okay fantasy novel

I would agree with that. The True Knot simply aren’t that formidable or scary.

Decent story but you don’t need to go down the Wiki rabbit hole for it.

The part about anxiety, depression, addiction is fantastic, but the supernatural stuff seems tacked on compared to The Shining.

I’m curious about the fact the press release made it seem like they are framing it as a sequel to the Kubrick film and not just an adaption to the book.

It's the first King novel I read and... I liked it a lot. There was very little (if any at all) horror, but the characters were good and... yeah Overall, it was a fun read, King put a lot of care and love into it. More than usual, I think
