Because you do not realize: what you have just said is the most selfish, myopic thing a person can ever say in the face of someone who does not want to live anymore. It is putting your momentary, singular enjoyment of their existence ahead of their lifetime of pain.

It is a slap in the face to everything I have experienced. Everything I am trying to fight. I do not "want" to commit suicide. But the forces pulling are so far beyond want and your understanding. And to say this? To say what you have?

When it comes to suicide, there’s a myth that personal accountability can turn the tide of trends. Accountability which, by definition, no longer exists for the individual (because they’re dead). So that plan has since been corrected to shame victims, to what end I can’t imagine.

If anything, it only adds to the endless weight of accountability they so desperately want out from. Everyone understands people will miss them. That's not the actual battle.

It is insensitive. And wrong. And you have no idea what you're talking about. Literally go talk to any psychologist on the planet and say what you just said and their jaws would be on the floor. This is objective truth. Stop it. Grow up.

Hulk, I’ve been a fan of your writing since 2014, but I’ve never been so grateful for it as today. Losing Tony Bourdain was a blow, but your thread made it easier to understand and begin to accept. Keep doing what you do.

You got it <3
