There was NEVER a range. The latter is the former. It was was always that way. People just grow up and realize it. There was NEVER a more innocent time. People just thought there was because they were insensitive to it.

The word troll meant something different back then and it was a "gentler" meaning. The phrase was created when "troll" was more akin to tease and when the internet using population was pretty much college kids.
