With every passing year I realize "Don't Feed The Trolls" is the worst decision the internet ever came up with. We let something disgusting fester thinking it was just someone trying to get a rise out of us. It wasn't a joke. It was never a joke. It was only pure seething hatred.

That is a good point that gets missed a lot; fight the trolls but also amplify the good folks.

Yep. You don't do it to put the trolls in their place, you do it to protect their victims.

I look at it like this: if I get them to block me first, I’ve won. And they do, frequently, because I will pull apart their argument so fast with facts that they turn tail. That’s what people don’t realize - they are counting on being blocked so their asshole opinion stands.

The problem with everyone just blocking is it goes unanswered. But self-care is important, too. I never bought the “don’t feed the trolls” argument, so I have fought back for years - what they really want is the last word, and I rarely let them have that.
