With every passing year I realize "Don't Feed The Trolls" is the worst decision the internet ever came up with. We let something disgusting fester thinking it was just someone trying to get a rise out of us. It wasn't a joke. It was never a joke. It was only pure seething hatred.

No. I remember the Web before social networks, when moderation meant something. It was technically possible to create and maintain a nice community. Now everyone is everywhere, no corner is private and bans mean nothing.

Right. Now that the web is hyperconnected, the whole of it became like 4chan on steroids. Technically, moderated communities still exist, but the bulk of social life have moved into a world wide troll-infested swamp.
