With every passing year I realize "Don't Feed The Trolls" is the worst decision the internet ever came up with. We let something disgusting fester thinking it was just someone trying to get a rise out of us. It wasn't a joke. It was never a joke. It was only pure seething hatred.

It was just an opinion, maybe i was wrong to believe there was a range before. Afterall, we were all younger. That's just how i felt things were at the time. But what is sure, is that i 100% agree with you on how horribly things develloped and are now.(1/2)

(2/2) I'm also sick and tired that feelings and sensitivity are seen as weaknesses, made only to be exploited by an erratic, insane and vengeful swarm, attacking anyone for the most inane and mundane reasons. "Troll" is not a cute title to parade with. It's felony. It's crime.

David Gerrold was talking about this recently. Like me, he was a veteran of CompuServe, and the trolls there were equally noxious, but they felt like they needed to justify their hatefulness. Now they're just openly entitled to it. (There were also better gatekeepers.)

This seems like a small thing for you really dig in about. In the land of message boards, trolls usually came in and tried to take on an entire community, and it seemed like their game was to out-debate everyone on something preposterous.

"Don't feed the trolls" was a very effective tactic for those guys. Then twitter, etc., came by, and it became very personal. And we were all like "Eh, they're trolls. Ignore them, they go away." It used to work. And when we were told it didn't work, we didn't believe them.

Just because you repeat it a lot doesn't make your perspective the truth. No hate, just saying. That's my opinion, but if you disagree I'm not going to say NO, you're WRONG.

It’s easy to see being a pain in the neck as playful when it’s not your neck.
