This is why I couldn't buy into Pete Holmes' CRASHING. If you're a 35-year-old just-beginning open mic-er with no day job, being supported by your wife, she is right to leave you.

Biggest part of why CRASHING just doesn't click right with me. Despite how authentic it is to his experience and it's extremely well made, the time shift of his life makes it feel disingenuous to me.

Maybe the best example of that is Private Parts, where they call upon Stern, in what must have been his late 40's, to play himself in college. Also a stretch: requiring him to emote.

This bothers me so, so much, and was one of the (many) things that sunk “Don’t Think Twice”

To be fair, it is an inescapable result of the process that goes into both creative authorship and getting things made, so mayhaps it's time to loosen the bother.
