It has come to my attention that some people would like to contact their state reps but don't know who they are. You can look them up here. Then contact them.

  2. When people are being put out of work, they sometimes get a little feisty. Don't pick fights with people who buy pixels by the giga, as they say. for lobbyists.

  3. Freelancers are legitimately concerned about these anti-freelancer laws. Lawmakers should play heed. for lobbyists. Please, , write a bill that works for all gig workers in Illinois.

  4. This. Traditional employment does not have the flexibility many people need. for people who can work 9 to 5, 50 weeks a year.

  5. Because it was a badly written law. Instead of shutting down Uber, it closed children's theatres. As professional writers know, a good editor makes things way better. for lobbyists. .

  6. Maybe one of their lobbyists is still dealing with the damage from a bad gel manicure? for lobbyists.

We have over 788 followers on Twitter. Quite odd you're lying about something anyone can just look at our profile and check. Over 1,400 in our FB group, too. And we've always maintained workers deserve protections, just that doesn't do it. Freelancers are workers, too.

  9. Every worker deserves protection, but putting them out of work is not the way to do it. Fun fact: employment at will isn't much protection. This is a campaign Twitter! for professional union organizers. works for my family.

  10. My father raised me to be a fan, and I have spent much of my life with explaining to Ravens fans that two wrongs don't make a right. Same now goes for folks. Forcing successful solopreneurs to quit won't stop Uber.

  11. I keep seeing people say, well, just get an LLC! Or a Facebook business page. The problem is that bona-fide freelancers in CA are being blacklisted because employers don't trust the work-arounds.

  12. Freelancing is a legitimate way to make a good living. It can be hard, but most ways of making money are.

    Poništi
  13. This. Companies with deep pockets and fancy lawyers will take risks. Small businesses and non-profits, meanwhile, won't work with writers from CA.

    Poništi
  14. There are many types of freelancers. You can fix problems with some gigs without putting everyone out of work.

    Poništi
  15. Yes, this. When we tell people we're self-employed, they think we're too proud to admit to being unemployed. Not true. Many if us make more money with more flexibility than our employed friends.

    Poništi
  16. This. Not all freelance and gig jobs are bad jobs, but not all freelance and gig workers had lobbyists to cut deals in Sacramento. Illinois reps, please look out for legitimate sole proprietors!

    Poništi
  17. 1) Many jobs suck, and that's bad. 2) The economy is strong in most places in the country, so people in sucky jobs should be able to get new ones. 3) Legislation to help people in sucky jobs fails if it turns good jobs into sucky ones.

  19. This. I know some people who were happy Newspaper Guild members who are now freelancers of necessity. Do we want to lose their newsgathering and writing skills? Don't they deserve the same flexibility as grant writers?

    Poništi
  20. Also, one reason many ICs have a low annual 1099 wage is because they are freelancing on the side. I guess you can no longer have a day job and be in enough paid shows to earn Equity membership. Right?

    Poništi
  21. This. If you have to enumerate specific occupations, you will inevitably leave off some with similar characteristics but no lobbyists. Or are lobbyists the new unions?
