This is lovely. But as a European, I'm looking at how something as normal for me as going to college is a hero's deed in the richest country in the world. We could create a really good world if we took the best from all countries.

I’m not sure any NFL coach has been to hell & back quite like Andy Reid. My intro, stupidly, to opioid/heroin addiction came when he lost his son. A few years later my family learned it on a more personal level. It can’t replace the sorrow. But the joy matters.

Wanted: woman performer for superbowl. Must have multiple platinum records, run a 4:30 mile and fit into rhinestones. Wanted: male performer for Super Bowl. Must have baggy pants and weird glasses.

Some players will become millionaires in the process, most won’t. The primary beneficiaries will always be the billionaire white owners who profit from Black men injuring themselves and who can swap one player out for another as needed, incl banning a player who protests racism.

The professional industry depends on there existing a pipeline of young Black boys who from an early age are raised w/ aspirations of being NFL players. Most never will, but their labor feeds the billion $ industry from little league thru college where they play for free.

The games then serve as a platform for state propaganda and reinforcing the violence of the empire, as you’ll see tonight w/ Trump. This was the same function of the gladiator games in Rome. When it’s all over, the white capitalist owners will collect the trophy & most of the $$$

The NFL is the modern day gladiator sport, a state-sponsored event relying heavily on recruiting men from the underclass to serve as distracting entertainment for the masses. Instead of fighting to the death like in Rome, they play to the point of severe physical & mental injury.

Nader made this claim in 2000. He then went on to do. . . .nothing for the green party. Nor did he significantly contribute to politically advancing any of the causes he claimed to care about. Jill Stein made these same claims. And I think it's safe to say she's done even less.

Protest candidates always say the votes aren't wasted, but will contribute to some future cause (eg. multiple parties, infrastructure, etc). The problem is that, at least in my lifetime, as well as my parents', these same candidates haven't produced these outcomes after elections

We have a palindrome of a date today: 2020-02-02 (my preference) 02-02-2020 (Euro style day, month, year) 02-02-2020 (American month, day, year) This is the one day when archaeologists on joint UK, European, & American projects will get their finds bags dated consistently.

Chiming in because I know everyone will be making jokes about this for days — this is a popular Arab tradition, called zaghrouta, used to express joy at celebrations. In the melting pot that is Miami, you could not have picked a better Super Bowl act and this was a lovely touch.
