Brilliant to see featuring seven female scientists you may not have heard of - but should know about... including our namesake Mary Somerville, her pupil Ada Lovelace, and our former tutor and fellow Dorothy Crowfoot-Hodgkin.

academics + their classes engaging with is such a beautiful way to freely share knowledge that so few have access to. if you’re an expert on a particular topic, Wikipedia lets you teach billions of people about it, in hundreds of languages, without leaving your office.

Augustus asking how long until his star charts of the Southern Hemisphere are ready: within 2 or 3 revolutions of the Moon's node, in a jiffy, a crack, less than no time, a brace of shakes, the twinkling of a bedpost, or before you can say Jack Robinson...

I'm afraid I will not be offering any hot takes on papers published ten years ago that seem to reinforce your belief that women are natural homemakers and child-rearers while men are natural builders and makers. I spent two years writing Inferior so I would never have to do this.

I’ve tried to compile a list of scientists from different ethnic minority backgrounds in British history and have 2 possible conclusions: 1. Not a single non-white person did science till the late 1900s 2. Non-white scientists have been erased from British history

So there's a few steps: first of all notice. Pay attention to what's between the lines, hidden in footnotes, or who is not named in photographs. 2. Start researching them. The traces of these women are there. 3. Use different language to describe them and their work.
