Now, arguably I could "phone it in" and do the bare minimum bioinformatics support for the grant and still get the same credit due to the strength of the team. But I want to put my best foot forward.

The time spent on this is time not spent on a grant as PI, which again will "look better".

But, doing this right is team science at it's finest.

I should not be penalized from having to take a grant cycle off from "my research program." The team is my program and this will be the best science to advance cancer immunotherapy!

Interesting… We are in some ways *more* incentivized in terms of the Departmental status granted P01s/SPORES cores/projects >Indiv R01s (tho less $). Sr. Faculty recently said “You’ve had R01s, but a P01 component shows you really know how to play on the team.” ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
Is that equally true for the biostaticians?
-
If core PI, yes. Some P01/SPOREs fold stats isn’t “Admin” core; others (like Peter Thall’s here: https://projectreporter.nih.gov/project_info_description.cfm?aid=9585446&icde=44558801&ddparam=&ddvalue=&ddsub=&cr=18&csb=default&cs=ASC&pball= …) are “stand-alone” stats cores.
-
I think we all recognize this is a bigger deal than an R01, career-wise, and core/project PIs are seen as “big dogs” around here, likely b/c you often have to have R01(s) or equivalent to get invited.
-
Glad to hear it!!! I have no doubts I’m making the right choice with my time prioritization here.

It’s nice to know that you’re aligned w institutional values/assessment tho when you’re putting in effort!pic.twitter.com/7GQWFSp1yh

sorry to bud in, but this gives me hope and sadness. I am the PI of a core and a project on a P50 center, and I'm told over and over that it doesn't "count" like my own R01 would (and my work on the core made fun of or minimized by some).

Whoa! That’s v different vs what I get where I am.pic.twitter.com/15msIVL9Xl

I have been submitting many more multi PI grants. They are stronger and deeper but need careful coordination. We all get equal recognition and pay. Need increased budget though... you should be PI too (

But you have to be careful and do it with people you know. I once let a colleague at another institution add someone he barely knew and that guy ended up doing nothing and then scamming money off the grant for his travel. I reported him to NIH.
-
I trust your experience is the exemption and not the rule! Luckily that has not been similar to mine. Then again, often and open communication is key. I am sorry that happened to you

Not sure i agree: with evolving career comes evolving role: from purely personal to using your skills to advance your team and coach the next generation. It IS valued if you have a promotion committee that is 2019.

A new menu with a kick.....the challenges of redolving a diffuse Foodborne outbreak. We still need better methods. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/31064638/?i=1&from=norovirus …
