I feel like Korra is the only show where the post-series expanded material made things more queer. But even that took forever to begin releasing so that Korra was no longer a big popular brand that could be "hurt" by it.
Hell, even putting Owl House's wonderful queer rep aside, it's just shitty as hell to be watching season 2 and know that it doesn't matter how much you and others love the show, they already decided season 3 will be cut off and close out the show.
So remind me again why I should be supporting Disney with money to watch their shows if my money doesn't do shit to keep those shows alive?
Season 2 episodes 1-5 aren't even on Disney+ yet. Disney+ stats for season 2 have not even begun yet and Disney decided "nah, it's over."
And sorry, I wasn't here for "spin-offs, shorts and comics" I was here for a great magic adventure show with queer main characters that looked like they would get to be together throughout said adventure with literally endless potential and possible growth.
This shit straight up just makes me not want to be invested in fiction in general. Not like there's any point to it, it's always just a disappointment in the end.
You get one show that seems like it might actually be a guiding light for once and the corporate bastards just shut it all down no matter what you do.
And people will be like "well it's about the journey, not the destination" as if the issue isn't that no fucking series gets to actually reach its potential as a journey let alone make the destination worth it.
In a few days Disney+ will be all like "subscribe to watch the first 5 episodes of The Owl House season 2" as if it fucking matters at all. Most international audiences haven't even been allowed to show support for season 2 yet.
Owl House has been consistently highly rated and getting more popular. Again, they literally can't even refer to stats for season 2 from Disney+, the main source for international audiences, yet. Plenty of series are kept alive without being the biggest thing ever.
Let's be real. Disney are worried about how openly queer it is and figure they can set announce a future set end point to not make it obvious they're terrified parents will say they're making the kids gay.
I mean, nah, it's obviously not about that since we've got the rest of season 2 and the entirety of the (shorter) season 3 left... ....it just so happens that they get the announcement of it ending out while we're positive about its queerness, yep.
Well, at least now I know why Disney wasn't rushing to brag about their "first wlw kiss in a cartoon" this weekend.
I also don't buy that we'd actually get post-series expanded material. I mean, She-Ra was a huge hit and we've gotten fuck all since it ended. But hey, we're getting super masculine "return to form" He-Man by Kevin Smith... ...yay.
Hell, to use a Disney show as comparison, how much Gravity Falls material post-series have you been seeing? How much of it involved the confirmed queer characters at the end? Yeah, exactly.
