      This article says the writer doesn't know if she got a flu shot or not. So he can't know that her death was preventable.

      Not a big leap given her #antiVax stance. He gave her the benefit of the doubt that she COULD have changed.

      I just wouldn't speculate. CDC report said: Protection by virus type and subtype was: 25% against A(H3N2), 65% against A(H1N1) and 49% against influenza B viruses.

      Is there any evidence that a flu vaccine can offer partial protection so illness is shorter and less severe? During the H1N1 epidemic in 2009, my diabetic youngest got regular flu shot (H1N1 vaxx wasn’t available) and had a much milder illness than unvaccinated older brother.

      Yes. Even when the match is not perfect those vaccinated tend to get MUCH milder course of illness if they get sick.

      Thx, confirms what I suspected (though I didn’t need any more reason to get flu vaccine than knowing what flu does to the two diabetics in my household)
