There were about five or six other slides about signs, meeting lasted a whole hour and it was basically about how to identify people who are likely to try to form a union, how to discourage it, how to report it to corporate office to get somebody sent out to take care of it, etc.

I'm kind of loving that their only reason that somebody might want to unionize is so that somebody can collect union dues.....according to them, this is the only reason at all somebody would want to be fairly represented......

-Associates come in sick.

I've had to do that a few times....basically was told that unless I was vomiting blood, I had to be there or find a replacement myself, or get written up. Shitty way to treat the people who make your business actually work.

I found out in a closed door meeting after three years' employment that every sick day I'd taken in that time (four total) was considered a 'strike' and 'unauthorized,' despite using days explicitly out of my accumulated sick time bank. wound up on probation for a year.
-
yeah, they're kind of notorious for being massive shitheads like that about the time off policy. I ended up having to print out the FMLA laws and leaving them on the store managers desk after a particularly bad argument about "Go to the doctor on your own time"

Warning signs:your employees may have caught on to.the scam they labor for

Apparently 'knowing your rights" is a warning sign that should be reported to management so they can get the legal team involved.

When I worked at staples like 7 yrs ago had to watch a 10min anti union movie as part of training.
-
Oh yeah, they do that at depot too, anti-union posters in the breakrooms too, talking about how much better it is when you can 'take your issues to your manager rather than waiting for a union rep to address it' They also have us update and rewatch all of the videos every year
-
It's so nice being able to take your complaints directly to a manager who can then promptly disregard them as you have no actual power. Versus the annoyance of having to go through a union rep who has experience with fighting corporate bullshit.
