The whole Book Twitter meltdown over curriculum reform is textbook site fragility - unconsciously translating everything into catastrophic terms without even realizing they're doing it A book is being "burned" or "erased" or "discarded" if it's removed from required reading

Oh wow I feel I missed something. But man, if it's any less depressing and nihilistic and grim than my highschool reading list, then I'm all-fucking-for-it, that shit ruined me on depressing endings forever just due to my overactive empathy and the RELENTLESSNESS.

All quiet on the western front, Of Mice and Men, 1984, The Great Gatsby, The Bluest Eye, Death of a Salesman, back to back to back to back... So bad that my reaction to The Crucible was "THANK GOD! An uplifting ending!"

Steinbeck's The Red Pony Who the Hell thought it was a good idea to make ten & eleven year olds read a book where the climactic scene is a man bashing in a labouring mare's face with a hammer? Argh!
