On 12 August 2000, after an explosion, the submarine sank in relatively shallow water in the Barents Sea, bottoming at 108 metres and killing all 118 personnel on board.

I remember that day. I was based in Murmansk, where the submarine was tugged to later. What a tragic event! We all prayed that the people inside the submarine were alive.
