Well, he was the son of Polish Jewish immigrants and grew up in the Quartier des Halles. Most of his family was killed during the occupation. He escaped deportation with his mother and sister emigrating to Australia; then he returned to Paris

Piranesi's prisons are viewed from ground level with the weight of the image above the viewer. Szafran is caught in the middle with staircases going up and down. Great pictures. Thanks for sharing.
