The journey of the veranda
also verandah, 1711, Anglo-Indian, from Hindi varanda, probably from Portuguese varanda, originally 'long balcony or terrace,' of uncertain origin, possibly related to Spanish baranda, 'railing,' and ultimately from Vulgar Latin *barra 'barrier, bar'

verandas in India are either spaces ( a no man's land ) or empty spaces inside a complex of homes. Where people can meet and socialize on someone else's property. And they are a beautiful architectural concept.
Homes are like geology, but the verandah is atmosphere.
