These appear to be Liberty Cap (psilocybe) mushrooms in the border - though they were not known to be psychedelic in 1899. Do they appear elsewhere in Bilibin’s work or in Russian art/folklore at that time?

I have this book! It's a really slim volume, too, like a magazine. but it's stuffed full of other lovely pictures like this one.
