These were in Metal Gear Solid 3. I remember how cool these designs were when I was kid. As an adult, when I learned that these designs along with huge Ekranoplan and ground effect vehicle were real, my mind was blown.

Sorry, no. That's a Bartini-Beriev VVA-14, a ground-effect "aircraft" or Ekranoplan. Definitely no vertical take-off.
