"O Superman" by Laurie Anderson (1982) was the most high-art experimental song to ever make it to number 1 in the UK. With its depiction of isolated people who are the pawns of a vast, technocratic govt, it seems spookily prescient. Very moving too. youtube.com/watch?v=Vkfpi2

Oh, that looped syllable "ha"... Few sounds are so imprinted in my memory like that one. In Italy, when I was a child, between 1989 and 1992 circa, "O Superman" was used as soundtrack of a series of television commercials to promote AIDS prevention
