is hitting wildlife hard and flying-foxes are among the worst affected. Heatwaves are killing thousands, and fires are burning their habitats while roosts are being destroyed for amenity. We need to swing the balance back in nature's favour and it has to happen now

1/2: Melbourne Zoo is celebrating the safe arrival of three rare and adorable snow leopard cubs to mum Miska and dad Kang-Ju! These three births represent a major success for conservation efforts, with fewer than an estimated 6,000 snow leopards left in the wild.

Ridiculous. This is wanton, deliberate killing of protected wildlife, not comparable in any way! Careful studies of raptor deaths from wind turbines have found numbers to be low; feral cats and climate-related bushfires kill thousands of times more birds.

Well done to for raising awareness of a different form of environmental vandalism — a local story but with wide-ranging potential impact

This was my first rescue today. She’s pretty healthy but was in one of the sections of trees that was green a few days ago but is dying fast and there’s just not enough food there to support her.

Massacres of koalas, wedge- tailed eagles, endangered ducks, smuggling of birds, lizards... and the rest. It feels like war has been declared on our native animals and I want to see our governments respond to it. Time to get tough on these criminals with a dedicated task force!

First in a series of Climate Witness mini docos. “Our job is to listen to nature,” says this apiarist, who has watched nectar-bearing plants drying up over the last decade. Will we finally move from fossil fuels to renewables when a food crisis hits? Will it be too late then?

It was 46-47 in Sydney’s west on the weekend. It is 2020 and our emissions are rising.

Am always amazed by the resilience of stone-curlews - endangered in the south, they're common in inner cities and suburbs of the north. This one (of a pair) was hanging around the car park of my mum's aged-care facility

Koalas move into the blue gum plantations because they have no habitat. What was once their homes is now agricultural land. This is the story of so much of our wildlife.

Fourth rescue of the day was this young male koala sitting in the middle of the highway.. he’s totally chilled and doesn’t need a cage lid to ride shotgun to the hospital 😍

This little one was hidden amongst dead foliage in a tree that still had some green on it three days ago but today was brown. If we didn’t catch her, she would have starved there.

Remembering this story just a couple of months back re the killing of Wedge-tailed Eagles. The story from Portland is a big test for the (which to my knowledge has still not pressed charges in this case) and

There goes the neighbourhood. A young turned up at one of our affected rock wallaby colonies. Survival chances for and small just dropped. Another reason we're investigating effective management strategies.
