Devils advocate - If the attacker waited 5 years he/they would have ruined more lives - He did the community a favour by attacking now and not then? 
I have heard this view and it's very interesting. It's honestly not dissimilar to the trolley problem.
What about LFG?, they were boasting the system and instating further confidence. Supposedly they represent the cream de la cream of the experienced community. They deserve a spot.
How can one stay silence if lives are getting ruined and nobody is listening? What else was possible for that person?
If the system was capable of lasting and growing for another 5 years even at a much lower growth rate than originally, wouldn't it not have become too big to make such an attack feasible? It would still be possible but the amount of money it would have taken would be much greater
