Pantera and other large node operators with VC interests appear to have intentionally shut down their Terra nodes amidst the crash making the network more fragile. Binance opposed the changes done during the crisis, AFAIK. Shutting down the node is a good way as any to voice that opposition.. Not saying I agree, but I don't condemn the decision.

actually yes, this could have worked. apply the good old Binance freeze to Terra for a couple days, tech issue, apologize profusely, give team time to think, give Ust holders time to cool down, give Luna holders time to relax. you probably save the day. CZ is a genius!
