Insurance was not available for most people, it was always at full capacity every time I checked

Exactly, lots people tried many times, but each time the insurances were sold out in a matter of seconds/minutes and it was impossible to buy it. The fact that the risk of depeg used to cost only about 5% shows how the insurance companies greatly underestimated this risk as well
