Like, why even bother using Greek mythology in your story if you're just gonna lazily mash it into blatantly Christian shapes anyway

Like, the Greeks didn't regard him as evil either, but Ares is RIGHT THERE A god whose whole deal is glorifying violent, bloody conflict and killing for its own sake

This was one of my biggest pet peeves about the Percy Jackson movies. The books got Hades right and the movies turned him into evil Mick Jagger (I did like the actor’s performance though)
-
The movies kinda tried to split Ares into Hades and Luke Castellan. The movies tried to change a lot of things and the movies ended up as dogshit.

To paraphrase Hades from the first Percy Jackson book; “Why would I want to kill everybody?! That would just give me more work, and my job is tough enough as it is!”
-
Hades from the game Hades is also pretty good. He is the game’s antagonist, but the conflict is ultimately a family feud born out of stubbornness rather than malice.

The kidnap of Persephone might have something to do with it.

Compared to the leader of the pantheon raping someone while disguised as a goose?

If I got to make the Disney remake of Hercules, I'd have Hera basically contracting Hades to get rid of Herc. That way, you keep the character everyone loves while paying respect to the story. But it would end with Herc forgiving Hera and punching Zeus into the Styx.

Hades: He's gonna be furious when he gets out. Hera: You mean IF he gets out. Hades: If, if is good. Lightning crashing into the pit as Zeus swirls down the whirlpool to his fate.
