Not a fan of Quaraishi. Appears xenophobic and “patriotic” (as those who toe conservative policies are deemed). Of Pakistani descent, but does he identify as Muslim?| Quaraishi confirmed as first America’s Muslim federal judge

Trumpie passenger next to me on a flight yesterday: Staring at my arm, which is propping up a book I am reading so as not to have to discuss politics with Mr. Trumpie: “Wow. That’s a really nice color. How did you get it?” I shit you not.

Settler colonialism in its prime: ongoing destruction, ethnic cleansing, genocide. Unaccountable. Winning votes.

Am I the only one who DGAF about Bill and Melinda Gates’ divorce? Talk to me about their unethical support of the privatizaiton of COVID IP for Oxford and Astra-Zeneca? THAT is interest-worthy.

I love ⁦⁩. But this is a shitty, shitty idea that is bound to blowback against BIPOC. Hate crimes legislation is designed to pit vulnerable groups against each other. It will rarely punish white killers.

This is a timely and important event for the entire Emory community. Thanks and all the participants for responding so quickly. Look forward to seeing you all there.

Their visibility has historically been linked to their sexuality. And their deaths are now also linked to their sexuality— through innuendo “sex addiction,” and the racism through which they died is now also being denied. 8/8

To those don’t see Asian women: they were FORCED to be unseen—through US laws that rendered them persona non grata. They could only aspire to citizenship through ‘respectable’ marital links to men who were enfranchised, i.e. through marriage to US citizens who were recognized 6/

This is also connected to a long standing refusal to enfranchise Asian women who are born in the US. Not only are they aliens in eligible for citizenship, they do not gain suffrage when white women do; they do not gain the right to be citizens until 1950. 5/

So the 1875 Page Act restricts the entry of Asian women on the suspicion that they are prostitutes and questions their respectability, implying that they’re diseased, and not of sufficient good moral character: 150-year-old law that casts spersions on Asian women’s sexuality. 4/

But here, I think the refusal to call it a hate crime stems from the need to disassociate Long‘s actions with racism and link it to an individual pathology. He’s shooting up spas and Asian women. Asian women’s sexuality has long been the target of the US state’s wrath. 3/
